About Nance
Nance Tapley-Peck's natural ability with horses began at the age of six. By the age of ten, she started showing Gymkhana and Western at local ETI shows at Hansen Dam Equestrian Center. She also rode in Endurance rides to Messenger Flats from Hansen Dam annually, covering 110 miles in two days.

Nance studied Horse Husbandry and later taught lessons at Pierce College in Canoga Park and worked for large animal veterinarians both in and out of surgery for five years. She also showed 22 head of Arabians for Mel and Georgia Heywood in San Luis Rey. She went on to learn Hunters and Jumpers with Don Swan at the Oaks while managing the 250-head Mission Viejo Equestrian Center. Nance's horizons broadened when she became the Conformation Expert and Bloodline Analyst at the Burbank Equestrian Center's Thoroughbred Sales Company which is now held at Barrett's in Pomona.

Nance and Verbalpleasure, Santa Anita Racetrack 1988

Nance's experiences at Burbank Equestrian Center led her to Lexington, Kentucky, where she broke and rode horses for world-famous Calumet Farm, Airdrie, and Elmendorf while galloping at Keeneland and Spendthrift Training Center after grooming for a year. She also flew to Europe to purchase 25 racehorses in England, France, and Ireland for American clients. Additionally, she acted as a consultant and trained sales personnel in California and Kentucky for Don Engle's Sales Consignment.

In January of 1987, she galloped horses valued at over 5 million dollars and earned her first Thoroughbred Racehorse Trainer's license.

Upon returning to her Los Angeles birthplace, Nance galloped racehorses at Santa Anita and Hollywood Park for Hall of Fame trainers Charlie Whittingham, D. Wayne Lukas, Richard Mandella, Neil Drysdale, John Sadler, Mesch Tenney, Rex Ellsworth, and Jack Van Berg three times. When she was assistant trainer for Christian Dumone, they were leading trainer at Hollywood Park that year.

When Kentucky Derby winner Swaps' trainer, Mesh Tenney retired, his owner/trainer, Rex Ellsworth, named Nance as Tenney's replacement. Nance won her first race as a trainer in 1988 at Pomona Fairplex. Two weeks later she won her second race at Santa Anita with a Rex Ellsworth horse, and brought home 11 checks out of her first 14 starts. She was interviewed on television by famed race caller Trever Denman and written up in California Thoroughbred Magazine.

She has been recognized in national and international trade publications such as The Daily Racing Form, The Thoroughbred of California, The Thoroughbred Times, California Horsetrader Magazine, Malibu Times, and Simi Valley Acorn. She has also been interviewed on television and highlighted in local newspapers.

Nance trained for Hunter/Jumpers with Susie Hutchinson, Gretchen Tank, Mike Edrick, and Nick Karississi for many years. She attends annual George Morris clinics in Southern California and and has ridden in clinics with Joe Fargis and Rob Gage. She feels she can never learn enough: "If you go through a day without learning about horses, then you must have been sleeping!"

Nance has also been an active carded Judge for over 5 years and became a USHJA Certified H/J Trainer in 2014. She judged the H/J, Western, Trail, Reining, and Halter classes at the annual National ETI Convention in 2011 held at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center and at other local shows.

Nance, along with her husband, Gary, is the proud owner of Peck Farm. In addition to running Peck Farm, Nance also teaches horseback riding for parks and rec for Moorpark, Simi Valley, and Camarillo.

Nance has been galloping racehorses for over 35 years and on her 54th birthday, she galloped 18 horses at Hollywood Park. Not bad for an old gal! In 2011, Nance again got her exercise rider's license at Hollywood Park and Santa Anita and is currently galloping her homebred colt, Artax Chance, son of Untatar, by Artax who won the Breeder's Cup Sprint in 1999.

What others are saying...
"Thank you for being so wonderful to my grandkids who attended your riding camp last summer. They were so excited to have had that experience. I appreciate all you do for your students. I particularly remember your kindness to their little sister when she asked you if you had a size 3T horse for her to ride. You threw her up on the horse's back and let her ride as you walked them back to their stall/pasture/place of serenity. You won her heart in the moment and became one of my heroes. I just wanted to let you know that you are fondly remembered. Thanks, and happy riding!"
   - Laura G.

"We are so thankful for you and letting my daughter have the opportunity to ride and show. She had the best time and came away with such a feel-good and positive attitude from that whole day. We appreciate all that you do/did to make that day a memory she will always cherish. Thank you!"
   - Stacey W.

"You know more about horses than any other trainer I've ever been with."
   - Danielle K.

"No drama, and I have peace, knowing my horses always have top quality feed and plenty of water and are cared for all the time, properly, with lots of eyes watching."
   - Sheila D.

"During my week experience with my two boys, I really appreciated Nance's experience with new riders. She has eyes behind her back and her helpers are hands-on as well. After taking her class, my kids loved the horses and I am happy to have taken a class where the instructor had safety as a priority. I am looking forward to taking her courses in the future."
   - Jessica F.

"My horse boarded with Nance for several years and she always got the best care. I was out of the country a good deal of the time for business and never worried about my horse. Even after I moved out of the area, I used Nance as a trusted source for questions and issues that arose. She genuinely loves horses and everything to do with them."
   - Betsy M.

"Thanks again Nance, for providing such a great week for LaLa."
   - Wendy M.

I love Peck Farm! I have owned my horses for over 20 years and have had them at many different places. Peck Farm is a lovely place to board. Great food, atmostphere, riding trails, arenas, amenities, etc. Nance is a great owner, trainer, and frend. She has heped me and my horses tremendously!"
   - Katherine C.

"Watching and listening to my daughter, it's obvious what a profound impact you've had on her life. You've been a mentor she idolizes and it's been really good for her. Thank you."
   - Private

"Nance Tapley Peck is an honest, caring and compassionate person. She loves her horses, is an accomplished rider herself and really knows her stuff. Safety is her first priority, but she makes it fun for the kids and very educational. My daughter has learned so much from her - about horses, horse care, riding, as well as responsibility and self-esteem. My 7-year-old gets her own pony, puts her halter on, leads her to the cross ties, brushes her, picks her hooves, washes her face, tacks her up, all by herself before her lesson. It is amazing how far she has progressed. She's loving every minute of it! I was looking to find a comfortable, down-to-earth, wonderful equine experience for her and I'm so glad we found Peck Farm - Nance's a gem!!!"
   - Cheryl J.

"My daughter has been riding at Peck Farm for about two years now and Nance has basically become family. The dozens of equine-related licenses and certifications she holds shows through in her work. And safety is always number one. Something you don't typically see at other places. We "shopped around" before choosing Nance and got over a dozen recommendations from friends in the industry and Nance's name was a recurrent theme. She's been riding and caring for horses all her life. Her rates are reasonable and you actually get far more than your money's worth. Give her a call and tell her Robert sent you."
   - Robert A.

"I have been a student, rider, and assistant at Peck Farm for the past 8 years. During that time I have learned so much from Nance Tapley-Peck. It would take me too long to write all of the wonderful things I know about her so I will simply say that she is an extremely gifted rider and trainer. She has extraordinary knowledge and experience with horse care which is an absolute necessity when choosing a trainer to work with and care for your valuable horse. The safety of the horse and rider are a primary concern at Peck Farm. She is always ready with a pointer on the best care for your horse. I have learned so much. I took a couple of western lessons when I was younger and learned English riding from Nance. Each lesson is very informative and helpful. Because of Nance, I am a better rider and horseman. The facility is a great place to learn and grow."
   - Lisa P.

"Great place to board your horse or even take lessons. Very clean stalls and the horses are fed very well. Quite and peaceful atmosphere. Nance Tapley-Peck is extremely knowledgeable and great with the horses. There is a patio for relaxing, 3 different rings to ride, and turn outs for your horse. There are also pastures for those horses who do not do well in stall. I would highly recommend this place to anybody looking for a new facility to board. Plenty of room and no crazy fees for boarding. Take a look."
   - Lauren B.

"Peck Farm is a peaceful, friendly, and wonderful environment for horses and people. Nance Peck is a kind, knowledgeable and caring owner. She truly cares about each horse and does all that she can to make sure that each horse is cared for to the fullest. It is our pleasure to board our horse at Peck Farm. If you are looking for a place to board your horse, look no further!"
   - Mary C.

"The best footing of any place I teach."
   - Gretchen T.

"Thank you so much for all your hard work and patience teaching my daughters at camp last week. They learned so much more than I ever imagined they would. My husband, sister, niece, and I all really enjoyed the show at the end of the week as well. Thank you for taking such great care of my girls!"
   - Melanie C.

"I just wanted to thank you for taking such good care of Flash during his R&R over the past 10 months. He is truly a new horse and looks so healthy and relaxed. You have a wornderful place for tired horses, and your personal attention to them is remarkable."
   - Karen A.

"We can't thank you enough for making our grandson's horseback riding experience so wonderful. Our visit to Peck Farm was one of our best memories!"
   - Tim and Paula E.

"I just wanted to thank you so very much for giving my daughter horse riding lessons this week. On the first day, she was not sure whether she likes horse riding or not, but from the second day on, she has loved it very much. She's already talking about going to a spring camp! We look forward to seeing you again in spring. Thank you again for doing a wonderful job in teaching kids how to ride."
   - Akemi W.

"I would recommend Peck Farm for pasture or stall board. The quality of hay and feed is high, the owner is knowledgeable, and the barn and paddocks are kept clean and orderly. Good trail riding all around."
   - Caroline B.

"I called Peck Farm, and after explaining what I needed, I was impressed, not only with the witty horse-lady on the other end, but with the generous extension of time and future accommodations being offered to me, just because I was in crisis, with my mare. The dialogue between us spanned years of Nance's personal experience. We covered everything, from A to Z. Horse ownership, horse-keeping, and everything pertaining to performance and even vet care were represented. Nance made me feel completely comfortable. She's a super lady to have on the other end of the line - especially in a crisis!"
   - Jennifer E.

"Nance, you are an amazing lady. Thank you for all your care and love for our girl, Dottie."
   - Mary C.

"We signed up both of our daughters for one week of camp with Nance Peck in 2010. Nance really taught them everything they need to know, and she expects the kids to learn. They had a lot of focused attention and had to learn how much work is put into horse care and riding."
   - Ashley C.
